Almost Famous - Part Two

Almost Famous - Part Two

06 February 2012

I can drive a truck. I did a stint a few years ago driving the wardrobe truck whilst costume designing Jaquie Brown Diaries and am still getting mileage out of the story. A small truck mind you - I don’t want to get myself into legal hot water - but big enough to fit a sink, two makeup chair stations and eight people standing. Here's a snap of the fun we had together. Jaquie is serenading Madeline for her birthday 2009 inside Bubbles the truck.  They sport robes from The Warehouse over their costumes.

After my car got pinched mid shoot, I had to drive Bubbles full time.  I got pretty good at hooning about, even though she was manual with six back-to-front gears. I passed the ultimate test of truck driving skill, successfully taking Bubbles to Foodtown Mount Eden during a long weekend.

So I was boasting (again) of my trucking skills to Mr. Crawley during the Piha trip as per part one of this tale.  It turned out he needed someone drive the transport van back from the airport when the tUnE-YarDs left, as he was going on to Wellington to meet Beirut.

Fast forward to hugs all round at the airport the next day.  Merrill and crew had an amazing time and springs in their step to show for it. I headed into the sunset in a giant van.  It sat at my house for a few days till I got a call from Mr. Crawley.  The person who was meant to collect the van and pick up Beirut on their arrival to Auckland had fallen through. Could I do it?
